All children attend Periwinkle for a 5-day fortnight

Children attend on either:

  • Mondays, Tuesday and alternate Wednesdays, or
  • Thursdays, Fridays and alternate Wednesdays.

Periwinkle supports the NSW Government’s “Start Strong” Guidelines for enrolments. We prioritise places for children aged four (before July 31) or five, followed by children aged three whose family holds a Health Care Card and/or who identify as Aboriginal.

For more information, please refer to our enrolment policy in our Handbook.

Daily Routine (9.15am–3.15pm)

Arrival ~ Children arrive to begin their work. Children are encouraged to participate in the daily activity – which may be bread making, watercolour painting, beeswax modelling or crayon drawing – or they may choose domestic work or self-initiated play.

Food preparation is part of the daily curriculum – the children help to prepare a wholesome lunch and

afternoon tea. In the morning, a fruit and vegetable platter is available for the children to snack from.

Free Play ~ This is a valued focus to the daily curriculum, with 60–90 minutes allocated to both indoor and outdoor play. Our beautiful garden and natural play equipment provide an environment for the children to run, climb, explore, and create many and varied play scenarios. At the end, everyone helps tidy away and everything is carefully returned to its home.

Morning Circle ~ We come together as one for seasonal or traditional songs, finger-games and movement.

Lunch ~ The children and staff sit together to share a blessing and enjoy a wholesome and nutritious lunch.

Free Play  ~ Another 60–90 minutes is allocated to both indoor and outdoor free play.

Story Time ~ The same story is told for a week, often using puppets and props.

Afternoon Tea ~ The children enjoy a nutritious afternoon tea.

Rest Time ~ A lavender face wash and playing of the lyre set the mood. Children have an opportunity to stop and enjoy the quiet.

Home Time ~ We rise from rest in time for a game and good-bye song till next time we come together as one.
